The honest read on Vegas turquoise shops

Vegas has a lot of jewelry stores. The ones in the casinos, on Fremont, and on the Strip mostly carry one of two things: imported pieces with stones of dubious provenance, or genuinely nice work at heavy tourist markups. Neither is what we'd point you to if you asked us as a friend.

What we'd actually tell you is what we tell every customer who comes into our shop after driving down from Henderson, Summerlin, or North Las Vegas: if you want real Kingman turquoise, drive to Kingman. It's ninety minutes. We're a hundred miles east on US-93 and Highway 68. Worth the trip for a piece you'll wear for thirty years.

What the drive looks like

From the Strip, take I-15 south to US-93 south. Through Boulder City, across the Hoover Dam bypass bridge, into Arizona. Stay on US-93 until you hit Kingman. About 100 miles, 1 hour 40 minutes in normal traffic. Easy day trip — out by 9, in our shop by 11, back at the hotel by 4 with whatever piece you came home with.
