How custom works at our shop

Custom is the part of the business we love most. It's also the most asked-about. Here's how it actually goes:

  1. Consultation. Bring your stone (or pick one from our raw rough), bring inspiration photos if you have them, and we'll sit at the bench and sketch options. Setting style, metal weight, finish, sizing. About 30 to 45 minutes.
  2. Quote and approval. We give you a written quote — labor plus stone plus any extras. You approve. We collect a 50% deposit.
  3. Build. Our in-house designer or partnered Native silversmith builds the piece. We send progress photos halfway through.
  4. Pickup. You come in, try it on, sign off. Final balance due. We can ship if you can't make it back.

What we build most often

  • Engagement and wedding rings — sterling or 14k gold settings around a single Kingman cabochon. Often paired with a gold or silver wedding band.
  • Memorial pieces — built around an inherited stone, an inherited piece of jewelry that's been broken down for the stones, or a stone that meant something to the person who passed.
  • Inlay bands — multi-stone wedding bands or stack rings with patterned inlay across the band.
  • Custom pendants — usually a stone the customer brought in, set as a single-stone drop or a more sculptural piece.
  • Squash blossom necklaces — full builds, usually in partnership with a Native silversmith. Multi-month projects, four-figure investments.

What it costs

Setting labor is the predictable part. Most custom rings, pendants, and small cuffs run $150–$450 in labor depending on complexity. The stone is whatever the stone is — anywhere from $50 for a small Kingman cabochon to several thousand for gem-grade material. We quote everything before we cut so there are no surprises.

Bringing your own stone

Common scenarios:

  • Inherited piece. A grandmother's old ring that's no longer wearable; a stone in a setting that's broken. We can break it down and re-set the stone in something modern.
  • Loose stone you bought. Gem show, online auction, family friend who used to lapidary. Bring it in, we'll evaluate the cut and grade and recommend a setting.
  • Beach or desert find. Less common, but it happens. We'll tell you honestly whether the stone is worth setting.
